Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 8-inch round baking pans.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In another bowl, beat softened butter, vegetable oil, and sugar until fluffy. Add vanilla extract and eggs one at a time.
- Gradually mix in the dry ingredients alternating with buttermilk until just combined.
- Melt bittersweet chocolate and stir half of the batter into it.
- Pour alternating spoonfuls of vanilla and chocolate batter into prepared pans; swirl gently to create a marbled effect.
- Bake for about 20 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool in pans for 10 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack.
- In a large bowl, beat together softened unsalted butter with powdered sugar, cocoa powder, vanilla extract, salt, and water or cream until creamy.
- Once cooled, frost between layers and around the outside of the cake using chocolate frosting. Decorate with black gel icing color for ‘blood’ effects.
- Melt red Wilton candy melts with heavy whipping cream for drizzling over the top of the cake. Finish by adding sprinkles as desired.
