- 2 large sweet onions
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjustable)
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 2 cups panko breadcrumbs
- Vegetable oil for frying
Instructions
- Peel and slice the onions into bite-sized petals.
- Set up three bowls: one with flour mixed with paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, cayenne pepper, and salt; one with buttermilk; and the last with panko breadcrumbs.
- Coat each onion petal in the flour mixture, then dip in buttermilk, followed by coating in panko.
- Heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C) in a deep fryer or large pot.
- Fry the coated onion petals in batches until golden brown and crispy (about 2–3 minutes each). Drain on paper towels.
- Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
