  • 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour

  • About ¼ cup blue colored sugar

Instructions

  1. Cream together granulated sugar and softened butter using a stand mixer or hand mixer until smooth. Add almond extract, salt, and egg; mix until combined. Gradually add flour and mix until just combined.
  2. Divide dough in half and shape each half into an 8-inch rectangle between wax paper or plastic wrap. Sprinkle red and blue sugar on top of each rectangle before rolling tightly into logs. Wrap in plastic wrap and chill for at least 1 hour.
  3. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Slice chilled logs into ¼-inch thick rounds and place on parchment-lined baking sheets.
  4. Bake for 6-9 minutes until edges are lightly golden. Cool on baking sheets for one minute before transferring to a wire rack.
